5th Interim Report: "The Debt Trap"

Taking into account the importance of the Greek debt issue, the PBO -as part of its responsi-bilities- prepared an interim report entitled “The debt trap”. This research was conducted by PBO researchers, Orestis Vathis and Dimitra Mitsi. Over the last years, the relation between public debt and growth has drawn the interest of the academic community due to the increase of public debt levels (both at a European and international level) which -as some researchers argue- can affect negatively growth rates, cre-ating a «debt trap». Using empirical investigation, the present research analyzes the impact of the Greek debt on the growth rates of Greece. In this context, we attempt to contribute to the workings of the competent Parliamentary Committees and to inform the Hellenic Parliament and the Greek citizens.
